Cast from the Edge: Tales of an Uncommon Fly Fisher
Published in Hardcover by Greycliff Pub Co (November, 1999)
Author: Scott Sadil
Average review score:

Enthralling read
I can think of nothing more complimentary than to want to meet the protagonist of any story. After completing this book, I wish that I could meet the fictional author of the journals and share a cup of coffee and swap stories. I'm ordering Sadil's "Angling Baja" today.

Sadil Strikes Again
This is an amazing gem, like Sadil's earlier book. If you grew up along the coast, surfed, fished (bait, fly, bone jigs, inflated worms, whatever), smoked a bit, got lost on dirt tracks in Baja, raised kids, were a father - or a son - you will resonate with this. And even if you weren't, or didn't, there is writing here that surprises and delights in its poignancy and penetration. A great book that is and isn't about ocean fly-fishing.

Caught Between Two Worlds

Average review score:

You will believe!
By the time you finish reading this book, if you didn't believe in ghosts, reincarnation or premonitions before, you will now. This is a book that is hard to put down. Each end of chapter has you wanting to know what happens next. Scott Russell Hill has done excellent work in putting out of book of intrigue and wonderment.

Caught Between Two Worlds
I found this book to be fascinating. It's one of those books that you just can't put down. To read about Scott's emotional stress and try to understand how he's been able to deal with everything that's happened to him is amazing. I would definitely recommend reading this book.

China Cross Talk: The American Debate Over China Policy Since Normalization: A Reader
Published in Hardcover by Rowman & Littlefield Publishing (15 January, 2003)
Author: Scott Kennedy
Average review score:

The best book on comtemporary US-China Policy
Simply outstanding. This should be required reading for any student of contemporary US foreign affairs or US-China relations. I've ready a lot of mediocre books on the subject over the years, but this is a keeper. Well-organized, nicely woven themes.

Perfect primer on US/ SINO Relations
This is an excellent compilation of US/ SINO relations. Kennedy weaves divergent perspectives to give the reader a well rounded POV into the history and future of the US's relationship with the middle kingdom.

Susan does it yet again!
Year on year Susan updates and adds to the definitive chintz guide. A mine of priceless information. Well presented, beautifully illustrated and an absolute essential for anyone even remotely interested in chintz pottery. This third edition is a must!

A breathtaking must for anyone interested in Chintz
This is a stunningly beautiful book packed completely with beautiful photographs. For someone interested in collecting chintz, this is the absolute best thing I've found for learning about the range of patterns. That range is far more extensive than one would expect from the sparse collections of chintz at antique shops and shows. This book will fire the imagination!

The essence of Christmas in New York!
As the manager, gardens division, of Rockefeller Center, I found the book to be an accurate, delightful chronicle of the world's most beautiful Christmas Tree. It's the heart and soul of New York, and thus, the world! David Murbach

A wonderful book of memories.
This is a fine coffee table book about a subject that would appeal to anyone who has enjoyed the wonderful Christmas Tree and Holiday decoratations in Rockefeller Center, NY. The photos are excellent - especially the older ones. Nice stories about the people behind the scenes, and how the trees get selected.

A Clear Differentiation of the Three Codes: Essential Differentiations Among the Individual Liberation, Great Vehicle, and Tantric Systems (Suny Series in Buddhist Studies)
Published in Paperback by State Univ of New York Pr (April, 2002)
Authors: Sakya Pandita Kunga Gyaltshen, Jared Douglas Rhoton, Victoria R. M. Scott, and Sa-Skya
Average review score:

Necessary reading for a serious Buddhsit practitioner
I personally found this book to be very helpful in dispelling my own ignorance in many aspects of Dharma.
Sakya Pandita's straight forward teaching gives clear and precise view on practices of Tibetan Buddhism.
Sakya Pandita was one of five legendary founders of Sakya tradition of Tibetan Buddhism. He is highly recognized by all 4 schools of Tibetan Buddhssm, and he was an emanation of Buddha of Wisdom, Manjushri.
Sakya Pandita clearly points of many traps that an ignorant practitioner can get into without understanding of all the aspects of Dharma and the consequences of breacing the vows even due to the simple unawareness.
Sakya Pandita's teaching is like a clear and powerful light and should be studied by all, interested in Dharma.
In this book,Sakya Pandita explains how an ordinary practitioner can really breach all of his vows and connections with Dharma by misinterpretting its meaning. He clearly warns of danger of teaching Dharma by unqualified person, he clarifies all possible confusions about 3 vehicles of Dharma and honestly warns us to humbly study Dharma without creating any false fabrications in our own minds...
Sakya Pandita points that with many benefits of practicing Dharma, comes the great responsibility. And if we will not become aware of those, we can easily slide into many traps of our own ego and grow in huge, and create even more ignorance than before by feeding it our own misinterpretation of Dharma.
Even now, after many centuries, this teaching was given by this great Teacher, the hair on my body stands as I read his clear and meaningful instructions.
It is sort of like a father instructs his children on how to avoid all possible dangers and traps while travelling by foot at night in the mountains...
The least we can do for ourselves now, that we are attempting to understand deep meaing of the Tibetan Buddhism is to simply read this book and try to comprehend its meaning.

Sheds Light on the Differences Between Different Schools
This book is the first English translation of the "sDom gsum rab dbye"--one of the most famous and controversial doctrinal treatises of Tibetan Buddhism written by Sakya Pandita Kunga Gyaltshen (1182 - 1251), a founder of the Sakya school and one of the Tibet's most learned sages

The author discusses the Hinayana, Mahayana, and Tantric vows of Buddhist conduct, which often diverge and contradict each other. He also points out how later practitioners of almost every lineage (including the Kadampa, Kagyupa and Nyingmapa) for contradicting the original teachings of their own traditions.

A very good book which provides much food for thought. Anyone contemplating on the Tibetan Buddhism path should read this first.

Computer Vision and Image Processing: A Practical Approach Using CVIPTools (BK/CD-ROM)
Published in Hardcover by Prentice Hall PTR (01 December, 1997)
Author: Scott E. Umbaugh
Average review score:

A great book for beginners in image proc. and comp. vision!
If you want to learn about the algorithms for computer vision and image processing and know algebra, then this book seems ideal. The author's style seems very accessible, and the examples show just enough mathematics to give the book some substance. Moreover, you get free image processing and computer vision software! It would be surprised if there were a better algebra-based introductory book out there.

Great package!
I found this to be a well written and insightful book. The text is supported by an abundance of figures and graphics and, more importantly, by the companion software on CD ROM, which is also available online (at no charge!). I would strongly recommend this book to any student/teacher of computer vision and/or image processing.

Con Air: A Novel
Published in Paperback by Hyperion Press (July, 1997)
Authors: Richard Woodley and Scott Rosenberg
Average review score:

Amazing story
What would you do if you are going to be free after seven years of prison, and you are involved at a jail outbreak?
The story is amazing and will keep you reading all the time that you maybe will end this book the same day you start it, maybe the chapter 1 is a little bit boring, but that is all, the rest of the book is great.
Here I have a question, how could you believe that the justice say that you have to go to the war and defend your country with your life, and when you are at home and kill someone in self defense you go to jail?
I definitely recommend this book.

The Most Dangerous Criminals On Earth About To Take Flight!

While Cameron fights to keep these massacaring everyone on board, a gouvernment agent on the ground (John Cusack - Grosse Point Blank) battles to keep his overzealous supiors from blowing the plane into oblivion! Amazing stunts and visual effects add heart-pounding suspence to this must see action hit of the year.

Contemporary Business Communication
Published in Hardcover by Houghton Mifflin Co (May, 2001)
Author: Scott Ober
Average review score:

The book for me
I bought this book used and except for the "quality used book" stickers permanently stuck to it, it is great. It's a 2003 edition that I paid a lot less for than if I'd bought it new and it's helping with the class I needed it for. So all's good!

Superb Business Communication Book!
I would highly recommend this book for anyone going into the business world. It addresses how to communicate with your boss, with your peers, and even how to interview. Scot addresses typical situations like not meeting deadlines, needing more resources on a project, etc... and how to ask for what you need. In communicating with a boss you want him to know things are under control and you can do the job. With a peer you want him on your side as a team player, so you may want to appear helpless. It even shows you the spacing and how to format letters and write memos. I love how this book shows you how to take a weak sentence and make it more direct. I've read many of these types of books but this one addresses all the business communications. Excellent Book!
